The Instituto de Economía (IECON) is part of the Department of Economics of the School of Economics and Administration of Universidad de la República.)
Its primary mission is to build knowledge through high-quality scientific research based on pluralism as an epistemological principle, supporting permanent training of young researchers and fostering the relationship with society through knowledge production.
The IECON is managed by a director who is a consolidated IECON researcher rotating every two years. The Director reports to the Board of Directors of the Department of Economics and research groups. Since june of 2022 The Director of the Instituto de Economía is Verónica Amarante.
Management guidelines are based on the strategic objectives outlined in the plans IECON has been developing collectively since 2008 and are currently being developed within the framework of the Department of Economics.
