- Year: 2024
The Gender, Economics and Public Policy Research Group was created in March 2023. The focus of this research group is on the analysis of gender gaps in different economic and social spheres, and on the role of public in maintaining or eradicating them. It aims at contributing to the documentation of gender asymmetries in outcomes in the labor market and within households, as well as identifying the structural sources associated with these gender differences, including the role of personal attitudes and social norms.
The approach is based on the discipline of economics, but seeking and valuing the integration with other disciplines that study gender issues from other perspectives. The lines of research are framed within the analytical framework of gender studies, based on the consideration of preferences as endogenous factors, insofar as they are determined by social and cultural norms. We explore to what extent policies seek to reduce gender disparities, and whether they challenge or reinforce stereotypes and inequalities.
