Real Wages Adjusted by Purchasing Power Parity: Capital Cities of the Southern Cone, c. 1890–1940

The paper compares living standards in Buenos Aires, Montevideo, and Santiago with London during and after the First Globalisation. Using new PPP-adjusted real wages, it finds higher pre-WWI prosperity, later decline, and persistent inequality among Southern Cone cities.
