Interdisciplinary Group of Studies on Disaffiliation and Permanence

The project seeks to identify the main determinants of permanence and dropout in the first year of university through the integration of all areas of knowledge and participation of professors from the schools of Psychology, Nursing, Social Sciences, Economics, Science, and Engineering. The study population will consist of students from the admission cohorts of the previously mentioned schools in 2022 and 2023. In addition, a tool will be developed for analyzing university permanence and dropout, adapted and validated for the Universidad de la República. This tool will be used in predictive models, where variables like student motivation, self-regulated learning strategies, expectations of success, academic satisfaction, classroom climate, and other aspects that had been linked to educational trajectories in sociological and economic studies, will be incorporated into psychology, particularly from a socio-cognitive perspective. The idea is to use a mixed design that combines quantitative tools with a case study methodology through focus groups. Incorporating several theoretical/methodological traditions and perspectives from economics, sociology, educational sciences, and psychology enhances this project approach.
