A group of economists, historians, economic historians, and demographers participates in this project to study the demography, economy, and society of the Río de la Plata region in different historical periods. This group focuses on the pre-statistical, pre-industrial and pre-capitalist periods. Its research activities are defined by the importance given to the spatial dimension of historical processes, the extensive use of primary sources and digital techniques, and the search for collaborative working methods with teams from the country and abroad. In addition to producing knowledge, Pueblo y Números del Río de la Plata collects and transcribes primary sources in digital format and makes them available to the academic community in various formats. From 2006 to date, it has developed numerous projects funded by the Universidad de la República and ANII in three lines of research: 1) historical cartography of the Río de la Plata, (2) demographic regimes, economy, and politics in the 18th and 19th centuries, (3) labor market, inequality, and standard of living in pre-industrial economies. It is currently working on eight projects. The main results have been published in national, regional, and international journals. The team's publications and current lines of work can be found on the web page.
