Uruguayan banking system database, 1929-1966

The Uruguayan banking system database covers the period 1929-1966. It gathers available information on the banking institutions in operation and the main items of their balance sheets: deposits, placements, capital and reserve funds, reserve requirements, rediscounts, and the check clearing house. A time-series about means of payment is also included. The data are disaggregated between Banco República and private banks. Within the latter, the information is broken down according to the origin of the capital and its territorial location, i.e., foreign and domestic banks, Montevideo, and other regions. This database was elaborated with information extracted from statistical publications of the time from official agencies: the Dirección General de Estadísticas, the Ministerio de Hacienda and, especially, the Banco de la República Oriental del Uruguay.
